LISA

CHIULLI LAY

Board President & CEO

       Lisa Chiulli Lay is the founder and CEO of Lamplight Women’s Literacy Center. Her career has focused on the design and leadership of educational programming that responds to the needs of women and children living in poverty. She has pursued these goals within a variety of settings including community development organizations, low-income housing, adult learning centers, and public schools. Lisa teaches adult basic education and ESOL. She holds a BA in Public Policy from the University of Chicago and a M.Ed. in Teaching and Curriculum from Harvard University.

  Throughout her career, Lisa has witnessed women’s ability to transform their futures when given access to education that affirms their potential and addresses challenging realities. She is also motivated by God’s vision of solidarity among people, that we would share in each other’s burdens and offer help where we can. In founding Lamplight, Lisa seeks to use her expertise to invest in the goals of women and ensure that economic poverty does not limit the possibilities women envision for their lives.

BETSY

BOWMAN

Board Secretary

     Betsy Bowman has over twenty years of experience as a teacher and school leader in complex urban schools in the Boston area. Additionally, she has served as a long term volunteer teacher and community member in Catholic schools in Honduras and Haiti, where she has experienced the profound ways that education transforms lives, families and communities.  For eight years after her year of service at Louverture Cleary School in Haiti, Betsy served as a board member and committee chair of the Haitian Project, the US based nonprofit that supports Louverture Cleary School. Betsy is inspired by her Christian faith to seek community and connection among all beings in God’s creation. For this reason, her personal and professional life reflects her desire to journey in service alongside those on the margins. Betsy holds a BA in History from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters in Education from Harvard University.

KRISTINA FONTANEZ

Board Treasurer

      Kristina is the Vice President of Biology at Fluent BioSciences focused on new technology development in the commercial life science space. Kristina brings to the Lamplight board entrepreneurial experience starting and scaling small businesses. She is also an experienced fundraiser securing capital and investor interest for new ventures. Kristina has a heart for service to the community in general and more specifically to immigrants and marginalized people. She served as an appointed Commissioner on the Arlington Human Rights Commission in the role of Treasurer.  During her tenure on the Commision, Kristina focused her efforts on community outreach events and organized community-wide initiatives to respond to escalating hate incidents throughout Massachusetts. 

     In addition, Kristina is the Founder and Principal Consultant of Fontanez Consulting, which provides technical molecular biology R&D advice to biotechnology startups. Kristina completed her postdoctoral fellowship in Environmental Microbiology from MIT, holds a PhD in Biology from Harvard University, and a BA in Molecular Biology from Princeton University.

ISABELLA

LI

Board Member

     Isabella Li is the founder and CEO of Musicale LLC, a global music community that supports the development of everyone’s musical gifts. Her belief that God uses each one of us to be His instrument has led her to build multiple volunteer programs that prioritize the voices and needs of others. Through her creation of the Highrock International English and Friendship program, hundreds of international scholars attend English conversation classes locally and online abroad. She has founded L.I.F.E. International, Inc. to raise awareness and funds for local organizations working to improve the lives of people in rural India. Additionally, Isabella created an access ministry to facilitate greater inclusion of people with disabilities within her church.

     Isabella has been teaching music on the faculty of New England Conservatory of Music, Preparatory School, for 25 years. She holds a B.M in piano performance from Shanghai Conservatory of Music and a M.M. in piano performance and pedagogy from Westminster Choir College at Rider University.
